Additional Info

Habitat: Open deciduous woods, borders, clearings, dry hammocks, sandhills, roadsides, and open-wooded bluffs. Common in the mountains and Piedmont; infrequent in the Coastal Plain.

Wildlife Value: Provides nectar for bees and butterflies. It is a host plant for many caterpillers including the pearl crescent caterpillar, Aster flowerhead caterpillar, Aster-head phaneta moth, blackberry looper moth, sweat bees, and flower flies.

Founded in 1997, the Earth Sangha is a nonprofit public charity based in the Washington, DC, region.
