Habitat: The Virginia Mallow likes its habitat unstable.  Loose sandy or rocky soils of scoured riversides and floodplains, and disturbed areas along roadsides and railroad banks are its favorite places. 

Wildlife value: The white summer–fall flowers supply nectar and pollen for a range of insect visitors (generalist pollinators). Provides vertical structure and cover on river margins that can shelter invertebrates and small vertebrates
