Habitat: Dry, well-drained soil, Arrow-leaved Violet thrives on banks, in rocky woods with scattered light, and in dry open areas. Frequent throughout Virginia, except in far southwest Virginia.

Wildlife value: Its nectar/pollen is used by various bees, including a specialist bees. The foliage of violets are used by various Fritillary butterflies as a host plant.
