Populus grandidentata

Mesic to dry forests and woodlands, old fields, clear-cuts, forest edges, and roadsides; in the mountains it may be especially numerous on dry ridges with a history of frequent fires. Frequent to common in the mountains, n. piedmont, and n. coastal Plain; infrequent in s. piedmont and s. coastal Plain.
