Additional Info
Habitat: Tends to grow in pure stands rather than in mixed groups and is commonly found in old fields at high elevations in the piedmont and mountain regions.
Wildlife Value: Supports Imperial Moth larvae. Seeds are eaten by birds.
Notes: Prefers moderate to good drainage. Hardier than most pines and suitable for planting in poor, dry sites. Not tolerant of over-topping by other trees. Pines are good companion plants for rhododendrons and azaleas (plant them at lesat 6-8 feet away). Leave the needles in place for an attractive natural mulch.
