Habitat: Old millponds, beaver ponds, sluggish streams, floodplain pools, natural depression ponds, interdune ponds, sea-level fens, freshwater and oligohaline wind-tidal marshes and aquatic beds. Frequent to locally common in the s. and c. Coastal Plain; rare elsewhere.
