Additional Info

Rich soils of well-drained floodplain forests, mesic slope forests, low-elevation coves, and dry, rocky calcareous forests; usually on soils weathered from calcareous or mafic rocks. Locally common throughout the mountains at low elevations only; infrequent in the piedmont, where it is restricted to local slopes and floodplains along the larger streams and rivers.
