Habitat: Bogs, calcareous and mafic fens, open floodplain swamps, depression ponds, interdune swales, tidal freshwater marshes and swamps; more numerous in a variety of wet to mesic, open, disturbed habitats, including old fields, clearings, and roadsides. Frequent to common throughout Virginia.

Wildlife Value: Members of the genus Agalinus support butterfly larvae and adults including Common Buckeye (Junonia coenia) larvae . Common Buckeye adult butterflies feed on flower nectar. Members of the genus Agalinis support specialized bees (Megachile spp.). Syrphid flies feed on pollen.
